I must tell you that it's the first time I've seen them in the grassy field. Previously I've seen them near the top of the ridge on the Stile Ranch trail. From hwy. 85 take Almaden Expwy. south to its end at Harry Rd. Turn right onto Harry Rd. and make an immediate left onto McKean Rd. Drive 1.3 miles to Fortini Rd. and make a left. At the end of Fortini make a left onto San Vicente. You'll see a small parking area at the base of the Stile Ranch trail. Walk north (or left as you face the hill) through the wooden poles to the start of the Calero Creek trail. Last week I saw the Horned Larks in the grassy field close to the entrance. The trail is very muddy and uneven, and needs about a week of dry weather to be passable. There's a map of the area in "Birding at the Bottom of the Bay". See Santa Teresa Park, although it doesn't show the Calero Creek trail. Follow arrow to Alamitos Creek.
