Today, Frank Vanslager and I had a very pleasant morning birding the  hilltop 
above the Coe Ranch Headquarters (accessed via Monument  Trail).  The weather 
was great (warm, clear and sunny) and we had  several opportunities for 
viewing quickly moving flock(s) of RED CROSSBILLS  while the RED-BREASTED 
NUTHATCHES seemed to be everywhere (outnumbering the more  common WHITE-BREASTED 
NUTHATCHES).  Unfortunately we dipped on the Varied  Thrush (habitat really doesn't 
look very good for them).  Birder's spotted  spotting birds included Peggy Don 
(she reported a flock of 25 RECR), her husband  Bill?, Jack Cole and Linda 
Sullivan.
