After a considerable (but unsuccessful) search from the boathouse end, I drove over to the entrance off Terminal Way, and found this Cormorant close to shore at the west end. (This is the end closest to the Forebay. Jennifer Rycenga earlier said she had seen the bird at the NE corner between 9:45 and 10:05. I was there then, checking that corner, and saw neither Jennifer nor the Cormorant. I wonder if this is a geography problem? Anyway, by the time I saw the Cormorant it was about 10:30 or 10:45.) Also continuing were the BARROW'S GOLDENEYEs and the RED-BREASTED MERGANSER (which was frequently diving, and not obviously in bad health). The ducks in A1 were still about as far away as they could be. By the way, Jim Lomax mentioned he didn't know where A1 is. Jim, this is a salt pond, and is out toward the Bay (roughly NNE) from Shoreline Lake. A full map of south-bay salt ponds can be found at http://www.southbayrestoration.org/Maps.html. Larger-scale maps of sub-portions can be found on Joe Morlan's web site, which I presume is well known to you county-birder folks.
