As I checked the sapsucker-drilled pine tree at the restroom, I heard a "mewing" call coming from the adjacent tree and found the sapsucker there, eating ants from the trunk and being quite cooperative. A female ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD was sitting on a nest in a pine tree along the edge of the parking lot here. Multiple RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES were in the area, as well. On Saturday morning, 12 Feb 05, I returned to Lake Cunningham and enjoyed the sapsucker once again with a number of other birders. I then spent some time at the coast, before returning for a visit to Hidden Villa. Here, I spent an hour and a half looking for the other sapsucker. Finally, I decided to leave, but stopped at the small bridge across the creek to check on a HUTTON'S VIREO calling up in the bay trees. While watching the vireo, a movement caught my eye nearby and it was the YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER! How fortunate. On Sunday, after leaving Mike Rogers, I went to Alviso and found a BURROWING OWL at the Arzino Ranch, to rack up a 6-owl day. I was hoping for a 7-owl day, but we couldn't find the Long-eared at Ed Levin Park. Michael Mammoser _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
