Not being on the forefront of migration up here along Skyline Blvd.,
I just saw our first GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS for the season.
Interestingly, I saw them in a live oak, about 25 ft. up (eye-level
from my computer station) instead of on the ground.
Thursday morning, about 4:00a I woke briefly to hear an unusual call,
probably a WESTERN SCREECH-OWL, outside our open window in our front
yard. It sounded somewhat like the barking call.
For the past few days, Red Admirals and California Tortoiseshells
(butterflies) have been active on the trunks of the live oaks out back.
Oh, and a BROWN CREEPER is working the trunk of the same live oak. I
haven't heard or seen the Red-breasted Nuthatches that were actively
calling for several weeks a few months back.
Les Chibana, Palo Alto, along Skyline Blvd. near Long Ridge OSP
