Re: [SBB] Bird Questions & Reports

I also have had California Thrashers singing since last week in complete song - I believe we discussed this last year and noted that this is a well recorded observation, although no one seems to know why.
Had a singing Golden-Crowned Sparrow this morning at the same time as a calling Western Tanager.

1. Why is our California Thrasher singing at this time of year? It has been doing this for about a week now. It is a different song than in the spring. This one is a bit more quiet and melodic, but persistent, and from the tops of trees.

2. After 30+ years, we finally had two Steller's Jays come into our yard today. We have resident Scrub Jays.

3. We had a Fox Sparrow this morning.

5. Our first Golden-crowned Sparrow arrived on 9/23/05, but no White-crowns yet. For about 10 years of keeping tack, the White-crowns have generally arrived before the Golden-crowns.
