Hi gang -- I'll post all the pictures shortly in two forms -- what I think
of as a reasonable light processing job in Photoshop, and a RAW conversion
(in Breezebrowser) with nothing further done except cropping and saving in
jpeg. (As many of you know, a RAW file is like a negative -- requires some
processing to create any viewable image at all.)
I have the original RAW files, of course, and will be glad to send them
(warning; each is a 7 to 9 MB file) to any folks who would like to play
around with them.
After this morning, it's looking like these pictures may be the only record
of the bird.

Guys,
In talking to Tom along Stevens Creek this morning, he mentioned that his
enlargement of the vireo photos didn't show a lot of detail and that he ran
them through his Photoshop enhancement software. I'm a little concerned
about how that software might enhance some details of the photos - such as
increasing contrast between light and dark areas or intensifying colors -
that might cause this bird to look more like a Philadelphia Vireo. It may
be
important to see the untouched photos to make a really good judgement of
them.

Mike Rogers just got in touch and confirmed my suspicion that the pictures
I
just posted may show a Philadelphia Vireo. I photographed the bird from the
east side of Stevens Creek, north of L'Avenida, and I believe before the
power lines. I didn't pay much attention to the bird when I saw it --
couldn't see any of its features in any detail until I post-processed my
digital images back at home. Mike R and Mike Mammoser are heading out now
to
look for the bird. http://www.pbase.com/tgrey/vireo_query
