[SBB] Guadalupe River

South Bay Birders,

This morning (7 Sep.), I birded the east side of the Guadalupe River between Montague Expwy. and Trimble Road in San Jose. The highlights were 2 Northern Waterthrushes, which were foraging together (and occasionally chasing each other) on bare mud within the overflow channel. These birds were located about 400 meters south of (upstream from) where the upper and lower gravel roads diverge just north of Montague Expwy. As you walk south along the lower road, you will pass two PVC drainage pipes between the lower gravel road and the overflow channel (these will be obvious when you're there). The birds were about 40 meters south of the second pipe, out in the open within the overflow channel, not within the riparian corridor.

Other migrants present along this reach of the river included 12 Warbling Vireos, 8-10 Yellow Warblers, 3 Wilson's Warblers, 3 Willow Flycatchers, 6 Pacific-slope Flycatchers, 4 Black-headed Grosbeaks, and 6 Western Tanagers.
