[SBB] Blue winged Teals

Shao Cheng and I birded at Charleston Slough this morning. At a viewing area on the west side, across from the pump house, we found all three teal species. Down a path just before the bleachers is a nice viewing area where you can get quite close to the ducks. I called Shao over to get a better look at the Green winged Teals. In moments two male and one female Blue winged Teal swam within 10 feet of us. Later I brought a family of birders to see the now sleeping teals and as we approached the fence another pair of Blue winged Teals swam out for a nice close look.

At 8 am this morning I saw the Am. Bittern at the Santa Clara Valley Water District's main pond. It was eating a fish then disappeared into the cattails.

An adult Merlin was found in Guadalupe Oak Grove Park this afternoon while birding with Dave and Penny Kiel. Dozens of Am. Robins were flying in to roost for the night.
