At 9:40 this morning was an adult osprey perched on a snag-topped Doug fir at 2400 ft. elevation and just about a mile southwest of Horseshoe Lake/Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve.
After 17 minutes s/he flew due west, so perhaps the bird is heading to Pescadero Marsh.
On Monday the same snag was hosting an adult Peregrine Falcon (I didn't have a chance to post about that).
Other birds who rest on and/or hunt from this snag-topped tree include Pileated Woodpecker, Redtail Hawk, Red-shouldered Hawk, Black-shouldered (white-tailed) Kite, American Kestrel, Northern Flickers and so on.
Happy Thanksgiving all (and please don't remove snags :-),
Georgia
