[SBB] Common Poorwills

These past two mornings I tried for COMMON POORWILLS in two areas where they
are found in the breeding season.

Predawn on Nov 19 I was at Hwy 236 and North China Grade in Big Basin
Redwoods SP, SCZ. 67 degrees before sunrise...wow! I played a recording of poorwill
in several spots and had responses from two upslope of Hwy 236 in the
general area of mile marker 12.52, west of China Grade, and I heard one other about
1.7 miles up North China Grade. A few WESTERN SCREECH-OWLS were also heard.

Predawn on Nov 20 I was at Loma Prieta and vicinity, SCL, again with my
recording. 62 degrees, but breezy. I heard one Poorwill downslope from the
parking area near the three way road split at base of Loma Prieta peak. Another
poorwill was calling along the ridge that leads to Mt Umunhum, not too far from
Loma Prieta peak. A third was near Chrystal Peak, north of Loma Prieta. The
first two were fairly distant from my positions and not easy to hear with the
breeze. The third was not far from the ridgeline road. Owls included two BARN
OWLS flying around at Loma Prieta peak, and 2 GREAT HORNEDS well downslope
in two different side canyons of Loma Prieta.

All the poorwills, except for the first one mentioned at Loma Prieta, seemed
to be responding to the recorded calls. None called for long periods.
