Hello,
I birded with Barbara Harkleroad today. We made three attempts to find the
MERLIN at Sunnyvale Baylands Park, two during the morning hours and again
around 2:30 this afternoon. We could not find the bird on either try during
the morning hours but were treated to great looks at the bird this
afternoon. It was still in the ropes course area behind the amphitheater
and seemed unperturbed by the number of people walking about. For anyone
who can visit the park around 2:30 p.m. I would think they would have the
best chance of finding it there.
Barbara and I also visited the new Alviso Marina Park this morning. We
enjoyed our walk there but saw almost no birds. We then went to the
Terminal Avenue entrance to Shoreline and Coast Casey Forebay. Among the
birds we saw were three EARED GREBES on Shoreline Lake and many Ducks in the
area of Coast Casey Forebay nearest toCharleston Slough. We saw both male
and female CINNAMON TEAL, NORTHERN SHOVELERS and GADWALLS. We saw a male
GREEN-WINGED TEAL, two COMMON MOORHENS and a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON.
>From near the pumphouse we could see what looked like hundreds of NORTHERN
SHOVELERS in the near area of the PaloAlto Flood Control Basin.
