Re: [SBB] Ed Levin CP

Randy,

I would guess that it's more likely that a Great Horned Owl predated on the Barn Owl. They're both present at the park and their schedules coincide, whereas a Red-shouldered Hawk and a Barn Owl may rarely have a chance to meet. And judging by where the Barn Owls at Ed Levin day-roost, I don't think a hawk could get to them.

Hello All,

Things were rather quite at Ed Levin CP this morning. There were still two Yellow-billed Magpies on the north side of Sandy Wool Lake.

A couple of American Pipits were on the mudflats of the lake.

Two Hermit Thrush were near the entrance kiosk.

Four Wilson's Snipe were in the lawn area between Sandy Wool Lake and the hang-glider landing/parking area. The were all hunkered down in some of the taller tufts of grass. The same area had 23 Killdeer.

On another note, while looking for owls in the Elm Picnic Area, there were feather remains of what appeared to be a Barn Owl. These were in the small grove of pines near the playground. Janet and I have been accidently flushing a Red-shouldered Hawk from this area on a fairly frequent basis in recent weeks.

Here's a question for those who may have information, but would the Red-shouldered Hawk prey on the Barn Owl?
