All,
This morning, in the marsh immediately south southeast of the Gilroy Water
Treatment Facility, Frank Vanslager and I saw a breeding plumaged WHITE-FACED
IBIS and at least three GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE (two males and a female in one
view). The Ibis seemed somewhat agitated, spending little time on the ground,
and flying to several "ponds" over a 45 minute period. It was last seen on
the eastern side of the facility flying north, however, earlier we lost sight
of the bird, twice, only to have it reappear so it might return to the first
pond. Unfortunately we were unable to find a reported Yellow-headed
Blackbird :-( We also failed to find a suitable Eucalyptus tree grove in east
Gilroy to search for Cassin's Kingbirds (most sites not suitable for humans
because of traffic).
Take care,
Bob Reiling
