This afternoon at 5:00 PM I watched an AMERICAN DIPPER as it foraged for food in Los Gatos Creek. We were on the "Los Gatos Creek Trail" having picked up the trail off the Main Street bridge in Los Gatos. As walked south on the east side of the creek we stopped to watch several ROUGH WINGED SWALLOWS bugging along the creek and trail. Not far from Main St. there is a section of the creek that has been cemented on both sides. On this part of the trail there are few trees and one can easily look across at highway 17 and look straight down at the creek.
It was here that the American Dipper was observed. It was quite busy gathering food as it walked the cement wall and worked the water's edge. We left before watching where it went. I was rather surprised to see a dipper here and do not recall a history for them in this spot.
(A DOWNY WOODPECKER male, ASH THROATED FLYCATCHER pair, BLACK PHOEBE, STELLAR JAYS, CHESTNUT BACKED CHICKADEES, BUSHTITS, SONG SPARROW, BAND TAILED PIGEON, MALLARD family were also found along the trail)
