Dear Ruth and SBB,
Banding data from CCFS show that typically birds leave about 1
May. However, in any year, a few birds may linger. Some late dates: 11
May 1986 (recap), 6 May 1987 (recap), 2 May 1988 (recap), 22 Jun 1992 (4
birds banded after 1 May), 4 May 1993 (recap), 11 May 1994, 8 May 1995
(recap), and 8 May 1996 (recap). Any bird seen after 1 May in the county
is of interest. In a few years we've seen injured birds at later dates and
they have oversummered. But as far as I know, none of the CCFS birds
mentioned above were injured or recaptured after the dates noted.
Bill
