Hi all,
Stopped by the three blue gum eucalyptus on San Felipe Road between Highway
152 and Pacheco Creek yesterday at 8:40. These three huge trees in
southernmost Santa Clara County sit between large plantings of apples and
wine grapes, and tend to attract an interesting mix of birds this time of
year.
The southernmost tree is heavily flowering, and a short stop turned up many
Chestnut-backed Chickadees (flying between the apples and the tree), House
Finches, Anna's and probable Allen's Hummingbirds, Bullock's Orioles,
Western Kingbirds (2), Brown-headed Cowbird (1, across the road on power
line), Wilson's Warbler (1), Orange-crowned Warbler (several), and, most
interesting, Yellow Warbler (at least three).
There were as many birds in the tree that I did not see as I did see/hear,
but time constraints limited me to a few minutes of observation, before time
constraints prevented me from posting until just now.
Mark Paxton
