[SBB] Ulistac Natural Area

This morning, May 9, Roland Kenner and I took a short walk at Ulistac Natural Area in Santa Clara. We walked up the Guadalupe River below the levee and saw a SWAINSON'S THRUSH, a pair of COOPER'S HAWKS, WESTERN TANAGERS, and about 30 CEDAR WAXWINGS. One WHITE-THROATED SWIFT flew overhead and we had nice looks at it. When the sun came out after a brief rain shower, we saw a HERMIT WARBLER, an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, and a WILSON'S WARBLER in a pine tree near the north levee ramp in Ulistac. We also saw an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, a WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE, and a PACIFIC SLOPE FLYCATCHER. In one of the big eucalyptus trees there was a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK's nest, which had one adult and three juveniles.

Take care.
Pat Kenny
