[SBB] SFBBO Bird walk at the EEC, Alviso

Yesterday morning I had the pleasure to lead a two hour bird walk for SFBBO. This was just one of several birding activities scheduled by SFBBO this month in celebration of International Migratory Bird Day (May 14th.) www.sfbbo.org

We walked the boardwalk out behind the EEC building and back to the parking lot. It was a quiet morning, but the hi-lites are provided.

BURROWING OWL activity was high providing many opportunities to watch three different adult owls flying around the area.

Several AMERICAN AVOCET pairs WITH CHICKS could be found throughout.

A BLACK SKIMMER came in for an extremely close view as it skimmed the surface of the water in Mallard Slough.

COMMON YELLOWTHROAT male was singing for all to hear and see as he sat on the barb wire fence adjacent to Mallard Slough.

EARED GREBES in breeding plumage in several of the ponds.

BULLOCK's ORIOLE singing around the EEC building

Dead rodents scattered about under the BARN OWL nesting box.

WESTERN TANAGER - a young male appeared to have flown through the area, but he did not stop for a good view. I only mention for reference.

Enjoy this month's IMBD celebrations - there's a lot going on out there.
