[SBB] Re: Blue Grosbeak migrants at CCFS

Mike
You may remember last year about this time you had a Blue Grosbeak
fly by on the CCFS property?
It was during the noon hour, I was on my lunch break.
I re-call you and severals other birders, including myself we were scoping the sewage ponds
to the west of the CCFS trailers looking for a Frankins Gull.
I asked if any Blue Grosbeaks had been banded.
You responded with: their was a male on the fence but if flew west a few minutes ago.
I don't expect you to remember the conversation, but the conversation did occured.
But this year a Blue Grosbeak has actually been banded. Good.
Blue Grosbeaks have been seen due east of CCFS at The Ed Levin Regional Pk. in recent years.
Not this year, well not yet.
Does CCFS have records of other Blue Grosbeaks being banded over the years?
Is there an archive data base available ?

Subject: [SBB] migrants at CCFS

All,

According to a post by Bob Yutzy to the shasta_birders listserv, Ken
Able reported lots of migrants heading north towards Redding last night,
detected by Marysville weather radar. Given that a push of new birds
with the improving weather seemed quite possible, I decided to check
CCFS on the way into work this morning 5/2/05. In about 1.5 hours,
mostly near the trailers and nearby portions of Coyote Creek, I found:

1 immature male SELASPHORUS HUMMINGBIRD (likely ALLEN'S)
1 "WESTERN" FLYCATCHER
5 SWAINSON'S THRUSHES (first SWTH banded on 4/24, 9 banded on 5/1)
several flocks of up to 26 CEDAR WAXWINGS
10 WILSON'S WARBLERS
2 WESTERN TANAGERS
3 BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS
2 LAZULI BUNTINGS
6 BULLOCK'S ORIOLES
and, best of all, a male BLUE GROSBEAK, which flew from where the trail
enters the riparian corridor back to the east end of the K Tran net lane
south of the trailer.

A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK nest is in the cottonwood along the creek about
100 yards south of net lane 9385.

Notable banding records in 2005 include:
1 HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER on 5/1/05
1 NASHVILLE WARBLER on 4/30/05
1 YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT on 4/24/05
