[SBB] Easter Sunday birding

On Sunday, 27 Mar 05, I stopped at Almaden Quicksilver Park (Mockingbird
Hill entrance) and took a short walk. An adult COOPER'S HAWK flew low over
the parking lot as I arrived. PURPLE FINCHES were singing quite
persistently. I had one calling BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, my first of the
season. An agitated ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER is probably indicative of nearby
nesting already begun. A flock of YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS at the parking lot
had a good number of Myrtles mixed in, and were doing a fair amount of
singing.

A stop at Ogier Ponds produced 8 RING-NECKED DUCKS and 2 BUFFLEHEAD still
hanging around. A swarm of TREE SWALLOWS was buzzing around a single
sycamore tree, probably vying for the available nest sites. An adult
COOPER'S HAWK skimmed low over the weedy field, scattering RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRDS and EUROPEAN STARLINGS in its wake. A few TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS
were also evident in with them. A huge movement of Painted Lady? butterflies
was heading generally north throughout the Coyote Valley.
