[SBB] Cattle Egret

Hello Birders,

The southernmost regions of Santa Clara County are decidedly soggy this
morning. Our Hollister rain gauge has recorded more than 1.5 inches in the
last 48 hours, and the result is that many farm fields are inundated and
creeks are quite high. San Felipe Lake is enormous, and very birdy. A stop
by Llagas Creek at Bloomfield Road this morning on the way to work was
relatively quiet. I walked only as far as the second settling pond to the
northwest of the creek levee. In the field that's already been plowed into
furrows, just north of the pastured goats, 10 Snowy Egrets were keeping
company with a Cattle Egret. A first for me at that location was a closely
associating pair of Wood Ducks, paddling about the flooded area that
contains several groves of trees, just south of the settling ponds.

Also recorded on a very brief visit: Cliff, Barn and Violet-green Swallows,
Song and Lincoln's Sparrow, California Towhee, Bushtit, Wrentit, Green
Heron, Scrub Jay, Red-shouldered Hawk, a pair of Downy Woodpeckers, American
Coot, Mallard, Northern Shoveler, Gadwall, Ring-necked Duck, Ruddy Duck,
Canada Geese, Black-necked Stilt, Red-winged and Brewer's Blackbirds, Lesser
Goldfinch, European Starling, American Crow, Oak Titmouse, Common
Yellowthroat, Pied-billed Grebe (heard upstream), California Thrasher
(heard).
