All,
This morning Frank Vanslager and I checked out the area between the Palo
Alto Yacht Harbor and San Francisquito Creek north of Geng Road. On the Golf
Course we had three juvenile WHITE-FRONTED GEESE (with the CANADA GEESE) and
one LESSER YELLOWLEGS (feeding near a GREATER YELLOWLEGS). I assume that the
LEYE is the same bird that has been reported, off and on, since the first of
the year. A female MERLIN was on a power tower on the wrong side of the creek
(San Mateo County). At the "Duck Pond" we had our first BROWN-HEADED
COWBIRDS of the year (three adult males). Other "notables" include a WHIMBREL in
the Yacht Harbor, a male RING-NECKED PHEASANT in the field north of the
airport runway and a female RNPH running across the road near the parking area for
the "Duck Pond," heading toward the Yacht Harbor.
Take care,
Bob Reiling
