[SBB] Alum Rock 03-05-05, etc.

All,

My Palo Alto Adult School birding class visited Alum Rock Park yesterday, Saturday 03-05-05, and had a great walk in the sunny warm (but muddy!) weather. The bird activity was a bit slow, but we still managed to have good looks at some interesting species. Highlights include RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER, COMMON MERGANSER, BARN OWL, GREAT HORNED OWL, TOWNSEND'S WARBLER, NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW, VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW, WHITE-THROATED SWIFT, ALLEN'S HUMMINGBIRD, PINE SISKIN and HERMIT THRUSH. I've posted a full trip report on my site, which can be found at:
http://www.birdguy.net/reports/paas_winter05.html

And speaking of Pine Siskins, a small group, perhaps 5, were present in my Mountain View neighborhood this morning. They were associating with a much larger group of Lesser Goldfinches.

Also, I know this is off-topic, but I thought I would throw it in anyway. If there is anyone interested in reading about
our recent trip to Salton Sea, I've posted a full report (which includes loads of scenery shots and a species list at the bottom) at:
http://www.birdguy.net/reports/salton_sea05.html

Two images of the adult Yellow-footed Gull, and third image of an immature bird which may also be YFGU, will be posted soon to the gallery section: http://www.birdguy.net/gallery/index.html

If it takes too long to load, another report (without images) can be found at:
http://www.birdguy.net/news/index02_05.html

Enjoy
Matthew Dodder
