At lunch time today, 23 Jun 05, I went to the EEC in Alviso and walked the
levee to check out the dredge islands. The most interesting birds were 47
returning WILSON'S PHALAROPES (including 3-4 males) and a single RED-NECKED
PHALAROPE (somewhat early for this guy). Three WILLETS were on the first
island in front of the EEC. The FORSTER'S TERNS are incubating on nests and
a couple groups of precocial young were seen here and there. No Black
Skimmers evident, though. The BLACK-NECKED STILTS and AMERICAN AVOCETS are
as raucous as ever along the levee, and SAVANNAH SPARROWS are still singing
in the marsh.
