[SBB] Loma Prieta

All,

This morning Frank Vanslager and I checked out the upper and lower saddles
of the upper section of Loma Prieta. Birding was improved over our last visit
but no rarities were located. Best bird was a calling RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH
in bushes near the road just below the antenna farm [there are some
evergreens nearby but it didn't seem like a good location for the species]. At least
three swallows were found on an antenna checking out an "dish" with a
missing "drumhead" and the inside of a support pipe. Two seemed to be NORTHERN
ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS (the pipe checkers) while the third seemed to be a TREE
SWALLOW (perched on a wire for a short period but a long distance view).

Take care,
Bob Reiling
