Hello SBBers,
I've been closely watching every swallow that passes by near our home in San Martin adjacent to Harvey Bear Ranch (Coyote Lake Co. Park) since the Purple Martin alert went into effect. Although I haven't seen any Purple Martins, I was surprised to see a VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW , which is uncommon in our dry and very open area. It was an adult, having very clear contrasting color and very clear white around the eye; and was sitting on a barbed wire fence for at least 5 minutes observing the nesting activities of the many Tree Swallows. Every year we have at least a couple that pass by, but this is the first time that one has stopped any length of time near the house for a good close-up view. I was not able to locate a mate accompanying this one, however.
