coming to work this morning in cupertino, there was a major argument
going on in the parking lot of my building (on Valley Green). Looking
into one of the eucalyptus trees, I saw a very familiar outline -- a
large, adult red tail hawk calmly sitting in the tree, carefully
ignoring a mockingbird that was attempting to harrass it (at about
130 decibels). I stood and watched the show for a couple of minutes,
with the mockingbird trying its damndest to get the hawk to leave,
and the hawk refusing to even notice it. A couple of crows heard the
noise and came to investigate -- when one saw the hawk, it decided to
go elsewhere and left. The other crow took a couple of half-hearted
passes at the hawk, decided it wasn't worth the bother, and took off
to join his buddy....
when I stopped and went inside, the hawk was still there, with the
mockingbird still screaming at the top of its lungs and dancing
around it....
