[SBB] Sightings in vicinity of EEC 07/01/2005

I mention these sightings because there is a possibility one might see these
birds from around the EEC - even though they were seen from specific
close-proximity locations off-limits to the public. These sighting are from yesterday
evening (07/01/2005) between 4:30-6:30 PM during an SFBBO survey of the area.

The Little Blue Heron was not seen again along Mallard/Artesian Slough. In
the San Jose Water Treatment Plant flow channel (with the water circulators)
right across from the EEC, there was an Eared Grebe still in breeding plumage. In
a pond on the other side of this channel from the EEC, there was a pair of
Blue-winged Teal, a male Greater Scaup with two females. Along Mallard Slough
itself, there was seen a group of four Whimbrel, a couple individual Least
Sandpipers, one group of 20+ Least Sandpipers, and one group of 9 Western
Sandpipers. Where the flow channel meets the road, there was an uncharacteristic
sighting of a male Purple Finch feeding in the dry brush along the channel -
individual bird with no others around.

On Tuesday 06/28/2005, a group of four Least Sandpipers were seen around the
Sunnyvale Water Treatment Plant with a feeding adult Black Skimmer nearby in
Guadalupe Slough.

All the best,
Eric Feuss
