[SBB] Almaden birds

I scouted for the CBC Tuesday and today. Highlights for Tuesday were a SORA at the SCVWater District Pond also seen by Ann Verdi. Fourteen swifts were seen above Quicksilver Park from Hicks Rd., but I failed to see any color. It looked like 12 were White throated and two smaller were Vaux's. A WESTERN SCREECH OWL found in New Almaden in Sycamore tree hollow and a MERLIN on Fortini Rd.

Today, Thursday, I stopped to check a field on Harry Rd. and spotted a f. Hairy Woodpecker in a parking strip tree, another was heard only. After many fruitless searches I saw a BLUE GRAY GNATCATCHER on the Calero Creek trail. This was not last winters BGGN which was a colorful male. Ten HORNED LARKS flew into the field and five Lincoln's Sparrows seen on the chaparral side of the trail. I saw three Say's Phoebe's; one along San Vicente, one on Fortini and another on Schillingsburg near McKean Rd. A GOLDEN EAGLE perched on the far side seen from the boat ramp at Calero Reservoir. Minutes later another GOEA spotted in a field near the fire station along McKean. A No. Harrier and White tailed Kite were harassing the eagle on the ground. A dozen Meadowlarks flew across McKean Rd.in front of my car. I found one LARK SPARROW along Fortini near a tennis court and several W. Bluebirds and a dozen Yellow rumped Warblers on McKean Rd near the R.V. storage. Later today another failed search for the Bittern turned up an OSPREY at the water district.
