Good evening all....
What a delightful morning Kristine Long and I had at Vasona....the greatest
news is the herons are back and picking out nests....two herons were spotted on
nests....saw three other Great Blues...two female and one male....what a
fantastic sight to see them.
Also, two Cackling Geese....one with a ring around it's neck and the other
someone might want to check on...totally different color breast than the
Aleutian (?).... more speckled and darker....but it's bill was tiny....and its
face patches darker than the Cackling with the ring....Mr. B...you might want to
check this out....
Lots of Canada Geese, Coots, one Spotted Sandpiper and Pied-billed
Grebe...lots of Yellow-rumps, Titmice and Chickadees. Also, Ruby-crowned
Kinglets with their red heads showing. One Townsend's Warbler.....Heard, but not
seen were a Flicker and Nuthatch....Saw three Nuttall's Woodpeckers. One
Turkey Vulture...don't see many of them around at Vasona!
We had two Mew Gulls, some California, Western and Ring-billed Gulls. On
the island out on the lake were three Black-crowned Night Herons, two more
spotted in their favorite roosting tree. Only one noisy Green Heron seen
today....
Stellar's Jay, Blue Jay and Robins rounded out the list....Junco's
too!
