This morning about 9:30, Pat Kenny and I saw the female-plumaged AMERICAN
REDSTART on the east side of the bike path 140 yards north of the Sycamore
Rest Area (which is a short ways north of the golf course access road from
Monterey Highway). There are low willows next to the path and a large
green-leafy tree north of the willows, all on the east side of the path.
The bird spent 20 minutes or so in this vicinty. Later Bob Reiling and
Frank Vanslager came by; Frank soon saw the bird, but in spite of four sets
of eyes we were unable to refind the bird for Bob. We saw a pair of GOLDEN
EAGLEs overhead and there was a CACKLING GOOSE in one of the golf course
ponds along the entrance road from 101.
