This is great news!
I am work w/o access to my records, but either 2002 or 2003 near this area:
Where there is a big X in grey plastic fiber on the trail ~ I had a Black Rail walking
on the marsh plants in front of the reeds.
So birders making there way to the Sharp Tail Sparrow area should keep
an eye open in this area too. A BR may pop up where ever.

I am posting for Deborah Bartens -
Hi Birders,
Bruce Elliot (former Fish and Game biologist) and a
group of 4 other birders from Monterey, saw a Black
Rail at the Palo Alto Baylands about 45 minutes ago,
between 12 and 12:15.
Location: (not at rail corner) About 75 yards
south of the effluent channel, on the bay side, just
off the levee. This is on the wide turn to the left
which is north of the nature center. Just north of
where the Sharp-tailed sparrows are usually sighted.
Hope this makes sense.
I'm on my way to go look.
