[SBB] Lesser Yellowlegs, Orange Bishop (Alviso)

Folks:

This morning, 8/12/2005, I checked a number of Alviso sites. I walked along Coyote Creek at the CCFS, but found no obvious migrants. At the CCFS waterbird pond I estimated 655 WILSON'S PHALAROPES. Among them were at least 18 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE. I also saw two LESSER YELLOWLEGS. The male ORANGE BISHOP was singing at first around the small marsh that is between the waterbird pond and Coyote Creek and then flew east across the creek. His song is a series of slightly musical chipping-like notes. The pitch and quality of the notes sound a bit like the series of sputtering notes that Song Sparrows give during aggressive interactions.

I moved on to Salt Pond A16 and New Chicago Marsh. I saw one BLACK SKIMMER flying near the second island in A16. Three VAUX'S SWIFTS were foraging along Artesian Slough. I saw only two WILSON'S PHALAROPES in New Chicago Marsh. There were lots of Common Yellowthroats about, but no obvious migrants.
