I found my first of the season Ash-throated Flycatcher in Guadalupe Oak
Grove Park today. Also seen were a first year male and 2 adult male
Bullocks Orioles. Only one Ruby-crowned Kinglet was heard and Yellow-rumped
Warblers were found in lesser numbers than previous weeks. Violet green and
N. Rough winged Swallows were numerous today. A pair of Red tailed Hawks
and a male Kestrel also active. An Orange-crowned Warbler was seen in the
tree tops over the parking lot. One Huttons Vireo was calling from the
wooded area behind the bathrooms and found perched in the understory of an
oak tree. Oak woodland species seen included Oak Titmouse, C.B.Chickadee,
Bushtits, Bewicks Wren, White-breasted Nuthatch, Dark-eyed Juncos along
with some Golden-crowned Sparrows.
While checking our nest boxes on the Los Alamitos Creek trail with Lee this
morning I heard five Wilson's Warblers. We have White-breasted Nuthatch,
Oak Titmouse, W. Bluebird, Bewicks Wren, C.B. Chickadee and a possible
House Wren nesting on that trail. As of today our two trails have a total
of 85 eggs, 57 of them have hatched. Only one of five Bluebird pair is
currently brooding. Violet green Swallows and Ash throated Flycatchers are
the last to nest.
