I was without optics this afternoon when I spotted about 12 or so
Black Skimmers in Salt Pond A1 on a sandy island very near the
Stevens Creek Trail(SE corner?). Easier to spot were 12 American
White Pelicans cooperatively feeding nearer the north corner still
near the bike path. A male and female Northern Harrier were
patrolling the marsh along Stevens Creek.
On Shoreline Lake itself were two Horned/Eared Grebes in alternate
plumage just too far away to ID with no optics(and they were too far
away from my scope when I had it this morning!) I'm pretty good at
telling these birds apart by structure, but not today. What, ANOTHER
day of birding?
