Yesterday I birded part of Lake Cunningham Park between Parking Lot B and Fisherman's Cove dirt parking lot. Fisherman's Cove dirt parking lot on the south side of the lake is bordered on one side by a hill. If you climb that hill it opens up into a big flat area surrounded by trees and shrubs. It is quite birdie in there. A Say's Phoebe was the bird of the day. Black Phoebe House Finch European Starling Mourning Dove White-crowned Sparrow Chestnut-backed Chickadee Golden-crowned Sparrow Yellow-rump Warbler Western Bluebird Says Phoebe Yellow Warbler Red-shafted Flicker Anna's Hummingbird American Kestrel (the Anna's was harassing the kestrel until it flew off but the Anna's pursued it until it landed in a tree far enough away to satisfy the hummer) Red-shouldered Hawk Coopers Hawk Red-winged Blackbird Burrowing Owl (near Cunningham Ave and Capital Exp) Bushtit Violet-green Swallow California Towhee Before I left I took a quick look around the lake and saw the usual suspects: Belted Kingfisher Black-crowned Night Heron (juv and adult) Snowy Egret Mallard Canadian Goose Double-crested Cormorant Ruddy Duck Turkey Vultures roosting on the northwestern most island where the cormorants and Pelicans hang out. Green Heron American Pelican Ring-billed Gull Killdeer Greater Yellowlegs A flock of peeps tried to find a satisfactory place to land but decided to move on. I also saw some other kind of grebe across the lake (other than Pied-bill), but could not make out what it was because of the sun Summer Brasuel _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
