At this time of year, in this area, it's hard to say if the nuthatches were remnant local breeders or migrants. I have no knowledge of breeding records from this area, although I know they nest a few miles further south. This spot was near a vineyard right next to Skyline Blvd. on the Santa Clara County side of the roadway, roughly half-way between the Grizzly Flat and Hickory Oaks trailheads.
