The wife and I had lunch at Scoma's of Fishermans Wharf in SF. After lunch we walked up the working wharf behind Scoma's and discovered a bait barge covered in herons (Blue (2), Green (2)) and egrets (Great (5), Snowy (5)). There were gulls as well - Hermans and, err, others. The barge is filled with baitfish and covered with netting that hangs a bit above the water. The holes in the net allowed the long billed herons and egrets to snag a fish from time to time, the gulls were frustrated. I haven't seen a gull that feared much of anything, but they were very respectful of the herons and egrets.
