After a few minutes it took to the air, circled the island several times, circled the pond a couple times and then flew east northeast out of the northeast corner of the pond until out of sight (9:08 AM by my watch). We then checked out Salt Pond A1 (22 BLACK SKIMMERS, including two juveniles on "its" island) and Salt Pond A2W but we're unable to relocate the Pelagic Cormorant. We then went to the mouth of Stevens Creek. We were a bit late but there were at least 30 to 40 well seen RED KNOTS among the hundreds of shorebirds there (all REKN were in basic plumage). Black Skimmers (a male, female and two juveniles) seemed to be the only residents on the small island in the northwest corner of Salt Pond B1. Subsequent stops at the Palo Alto Duck Pond Ranger Station and at the end of Embarcadero Way failed to yield any birds of note.
