I also saw several Double-crested Cormorants, but no Brant's. What I found was a PELAGIC CORMORANT feeding near the western shore of the lake. Here, I was able to get scope-filling views. I then had to go all the way back to work in Santa Clara to phone Mike Rogers. He made it out to the lake near sunset and was not able to find any cormorants on the water. However, as he continued searching he picked up on a PELAGIC CORMORANT in flight over the lake. He said that it circled out over A1 and then turned north, where he lost it around the Palo Alto Baylands. I don't know if this bird will be back, but it may be worthwhile to check the lake in upcoming days.
