We then headed out the railroad tracks from the Environmental Education Center entrance road. At the first pond on the right Frank quickly found a juvenile PECTORAL SANDPIPER crawling around a small Pickleweed covered island. We then decided to check out the northern portion of the Pond at State & Spreckles (from the railroad tracks). Frank soon said "There's one" just as I spotted a second PESA. It took a few seconds to realize that he was talking about a different bird, the lightly marked male RUFF. We then found a group of five PESAs (again in the Pickleweed) and ultimately watched a flock of eight fly across the railroad tracks into the center of New Chicago Marsh and (you guessed) it disappear into some Pickleweed.
