Today I saw my first group. Three males and one female were together in a perc pond west of San Tomas Expressway between Budd and Winchester Blvd. This morning while leading a class trip at the Palo Alto Baylands we found (first of the year) duck hunters sitting in their boat near the mouth of San Francisquito Creek. I was excited to see Canvasback Ducks in the bay and quickly realized they were decoys belonging to the hunters, and were in fact the only "ducks" close to the hunter's proximity.
