   My annual fall visit to the Palo Alto Hills Golf and Country Club this
morning turned up a group of four Lawrence's Goldfinches.  These were all
youngsters, unlike some past years when I had larger numbers with a mix
of plumages.  A flock of Pine Siskins was hard to count, but I think 10
birds would be a conservative estimate.  I had half-expected to run into
a Red-breasted Nuthatch (they've been in SF and along the coast this fall),
but I only had a number of White-breasted.
