It was rather quiet. A Cooper's Hawk was flying from one side of the park to the other, which probably kept most birds in cover. We did see a Hermit Thrush near the SV Pond outlet drainage and a pair of White-breasted Nuthatches were in the tamarask trees along Calaveras Road. We drove the maintenance road along the backside of Spring Valley Golf Course to look into the big pond on the golf course. Besides the expected American Coots were maybe a couple dozen Ring-necked Ducks and about a dozen Ruddy Ducks, a few Gadwall and Mallard. It is interesting that the golf course pond is full of waterfowl and both Sandy Wool and Spring Valley only have the "resident" mallards/hybrids and a couple of coots. Otherwise the usual cast of characters. -- Randy & Janet Little, Milpitas, CA [[email protected]] "I bird because the voices in my head tell me to." _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
