All,

Over lunch today 10/14/04, I headed into Monte Bello Open Space Preserve 
along the Canyon Trail, hoping to find Garth's finch flock. Indeed there 
were still 18+ PINE SISKINS and at least two LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCHES 
(male and female) in the willows at the south end of the sag pond (just 
before milepost 0.3 and shortly before the Bella Vista Trail turnoff). A 
couple of PURPLE FINCHES were here as well.

Two COYOTES were playing and enjoying a deer kill back near Page Mill Road.

No-name pond below Gate 5 at Alpine Road had a GREAT BLUE HERON, 4 
AMERICAN COOTS, and a GARTER SNAKE - but no unusual sparrows in the heat 
of the day.
