I think there was another SCL sighting within a few days of that date a bit further south, or maybe one not much further north in SM. (Oh no! County codes! See below.) They don't seem to stay very long at the Baylands... yet. There have been many more records of Great-tailed Grackle in Central CA, from the coast through the Central Valley, than any of the other grackle species. Breeding activity has even been documented in scattered areas. This species is the most likely of the grackles to be seen in CA, but there have been a few Common Grackle sightings, most recently in SOL on 10/10/04. I'm not sure if this sighting has been confirmed; photos (film) were taken. BTW, Common Grackle is a review species for California (see below). Les Chibana P.S. Did I raise your blood pressure with the acronym/codes? SCL = CBRC county code for Santa Clara County SM = CBRC county code for San Mateo County CA = Postal code for California SOL = No, not what you're thinking, the code for Solano County BTW = "By the way", email shorthand CBRC = California Bird Records Committee, part of the WFO WFO = Western Field Ornithologists, check our their very useful website for the official CA bird list (if you don't mind an authority figure in your birding): The review list of CA birds, i.e., rarities that need documentation in order to be considered by the committee for acceptance of the sighting: And their usage of county codes: And I didn't even use 4-letter codes for the bird names! _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
