Park I had a brief conversation with Frank Vanslager about the Canada Goose species split by the AOU. On my way home I thought I would go by Vasona Co. Park and look through the Canada Geese that are usually there. Sure enough after 20 minutes or so I found a smallish goose with a distinct white neck band, a small bill, a dark breast and a black gap in the white chin strap. When I got home I "Googled" and found an excellent paper on the subject that that helped me identify the bird as a Branta hutchinsii leucopareia one the geese now considerd a Cackling Goose. I think this paper is well worth reading although it is written from the perspective of a Utah birder.
