I had a lovely hour at Alum Rock Park this afternoon! The highlight was the Western Screech-owl perched out in the open in the sycamore tree just downstream of the YSI. This is the same location where a WESO was seen last spring. This sycamore is about 50 feet downstream of the YSI, and sticks out from the creek bank over the paved trail at a 45 degree angle. It's difficult to see the hole the owl is using unless one is rather close, because the knot-hole is loosely surrounded by the canopy of nearby trees.
