On a walk around the Palo Alto baylands today at 12:30, Michael McGrath and I saw a Short-eared Owl flying low over the marsh from Mayfield slough towards the center of the flood control basin.  This is the area just southeast of the "pole field".  The owl continued low and erratic over the marsh until it disappeared to the south.
